International Avanos Applied Ceramic Symposium (UAUSS)

11th UAUSS About Symposium

1) 11th UAUSS International Avanos Applied Ceramic Symposium “Ceramic Installation or Ceramic Sculpture” will be held in cooperation with University of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli ASEM (Avanos Ceramic Application and Research Center), District Governorship of Avanos, Mayorship of Avanos between 10th and 21st June, 2019, in Avanos, Nevşehir, TURKEY.

2) The main goal of the symposium is to exchange the experiences, personal techniques and artistic observations of ceramic artists and local potters through the event of installation or sculpture outdoor ceramic pieces. It is expected through this event to contribute to the Cappadocia region and Avanos which has been a traditional ceramic town for centuries and which still continues to be a popular ceramic center.

3) The outdoor installation or sculpture ceramics created in the frame of the symposium will remain in the possession of Avanos District Governorship, Avanos Mayorship and University of Nevşehir Hacı Bektaş Veli Avanos Ceramic Application and Research Center be exhibited as permanent public outdoor ceramics in the town center of Avanos.

4) UAUSS has taken place since the year 2000, and has been organized by Universities of Hacettepe, Kapadokya, Erciyes, Nevşehir and district governorships. UAUSS will contribute to local folk, tourists, academicians, artists and students in scientific, artistic and touristic aspects. In 2019, the 11th UAUSS will be held between the and 10th- 21st June.

5) 4 wood-fired kilns (Soda, Nobarigama, Anagama and Salt Kilns) were constructed during previous UAUSS events in the “Kiln Park” which is the first kiln exhibition site in Turkey.

6) It is aimed to promote ceramic culture which has thousands years of history via contemporary examples and to promote the relationship between the artist-potter-student-art viewers. Expanding the boundaries of traditional ceramic art, producing traditional and contemporary practices are some of the other goals.

7) The working area will be outdoors near the Kızılırmak River.
